Short Cobra Grain

Cobra, Short Cobra or Short grain

Widely used by the North American auto industry in early decades, variants of this grain were called Cobra, Short and Short Cobra.  The grain geometry varied among fabric makers and also varied over time.  Earliest forms around 1910 were shallow and indistinct.  This illustration shows the form used in recent decades for most restoration market top materials, with a relatively deep relief to the grain geometry.
