Ford Grain

Ford grain, circa early to mid-1920s

Variations of this grain were used for the original production tops of Ford model T cars through the full production lifespan of the Model T (model year 1909 through 1927). Period samples show variations, including at least one case where script Ford letters “Fc” appear in places in the grain. Earlier samples have relatively poor grain definition, while this example shows the better grain definition characteristic of later material. Various fabric makers used differing names for this grain, including DuPont calling it “Fine” grain. While this could have been used on other cars in production concurrent with the Model T, this has not been documented.
